The ranks are based on the movement up the 'rankings' of roles in Doctor Who, starting off as a one-shot character and moving up to bigger and better roles. Where possible, examples are given to 'demonstrate' what each rank means.
0 - 9 posts: Monster Actor You're the guy in the monster suit. It's fun, but the suits you have to wear aren't the nicest things in the world - all that rubber and latex makes them extremely hot and some of them are horrendously unwieldy. Maybe if you convince a director that you deserve to get out of the suit, you'll have a better role soon... Example: Yeti, Daleks, Cybermen, etc.
10 - 25 posts: One-shot character. Created for a single serial, or, in some cases, a single episode, you are a character who rarely gets the character development that the regulars do. You're often regarded as one-dimensional or shallow, but you can be important to the plot. Example: Chancellor Flavia
26 - 75 posts: Story-specific character. Created especially for stories dealing with certain monsters, you make one or two appearances. Your popularity is dictated by which monsters you're appearing with, but your acting ability helps as well. If you put on a good show, you might be considered for another character, a character who's closer to 'regular' status. Example: Professor Travers
76 - 150 posts: Irregular recurring character. Everyone knows who you are, but you appear in on-again off-again patterns. One episode you'll be there, and the next you'll have vanished without an explanation. But this is getting you closer to 'regular' status. Many people will already class you as one. Example: Sergeant Benton
151 - 200 posts: Regular character (non-companion). You always appear, but the fandom still doesn't class you as a companion. You're akin to Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, except you never enter the TARDIS. If you keep up the good work, you might get a better role. Perhaps as a companion. Example: Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart
201 - 250 posts: Short-running companion. You've finally made it to being a companion, but you've got an extremely short contract. You're not due to appear in many episodes before being written out. If you continue to put on a good show, your contract might be extended. Example: Katarina
251 - 300 posts: Long-running companion. Success! You've gotten an extention on your contract and are quickly becoming a fan favourite. Your Doctor, whoever it may be, has started joking that he should give up the role to you, as your popularity is starting to rival his. You're guaranteed to stay on the show for at least another year, and the scripts department are giving you wonderful material... Example: Ian and Barbara
301 - 449 posts: Loyal companion. You've been 'travelling' with your Doctor for longer than any of his other companions have. You've been awarded the 'loyalty' status, something that very few companions gain. Your Doctor has started talking of leaving now, saying that he's too old or too busy to continue playing the role. ...That leaves an interesting position open for you... Example: Jamie
450 posts: The Doctor. Your Doctor has left the position open, and has strongly hinted that you should take the role from him. The BBC are in agreement, and hand over the role to you. Your scripts are strong and believable, and many old enemies are brought back to life over your long 'reign'. You fight enemies such as the Ice Warriors, the Dominators and the Quarks, you bring historical adventures back into 'vogue', something that no Doctor has done since Patrick Troughton. Even Tom Baker himself applauds your preformance, he congratulates you on making the world of Doctor Who stronger and more plausible than ever before.
